Hypnos by Saara Ekströms and Split Seconds by Nicole Khadivi Saara Ekström Hypnos, 2024 8mm and 16mm film, 9:11 min In Hypnos, Saara Ekström’s video work, Japanese Noh theatre masks become portals to a spiritual, ritualistic, and psychological state, in dialogue with the forest. The piece embraces fundamental, existential questions. Ekström repeatedly returns to the unconscious as both a mental category and a layer within the fabric of collective history and deep time. Nicole Khadivis Split Seconds Digital video, 4k, surround 5:1, color 13:16 min When a young girl returns to what seems to be her childhood home, memories relating to her father unfolds and dislocates time and space. We follow endless moments between a father and a daughter, where the memories that comes to mind echoes the lack of words. Only what is surrounding the silence is outspoken and remembered.
